Major General Sir Isaac Brock

Our famous ancestor, Major General Sir Isaac Brock, was born in Guernsey in the Channel Islands and was schooled in Southampton.  He joined the British Army in his teens and rose through the ranks during his regiments time in the West Indies and the Netherlands.  The 49th Regiment of Foot were posted to Canada and he spent the rest of his life there.

Major General Sir Isaac Brock's time in Canada was spent improving the standard of the troops at his command, making alliances with First Nations people, enlarging and rebuilding the countries scant defences and encouraging Canadian civilians to support the militias.  Brock saw War coming with France and the US in the Canadas long before it was finally declared by the US in 1812, and was ready to take the fight across the border.

Brock's daring attacks and his bold defence and death at Queenston Heights helped to gel the people of Canada, both Native and Settlers, with the British Regulars, and the country was able to push back the American invasions, defining its place in history and settling the border that has separated the countries ever since.
